Pai Thai - Thaitastic!

Pai Thai
Al Qasr Hotel, Madinat Jumeirah

If there is a restaurant with a better setting in Dubai I have yet to try it. Have a drink at the Bahri Bar, meander downstairs, hop an abra and wend your gentle way through the canals to alight at the restaurant some five minutes later. It is a fabulous way to start an evening, quite magical, and if you have tourists in town it is always a winner.

Perched by the side of the canal, water lapping below, palm trees lit up, the wind towers all aglow, sitting on the wooden decking with an ice cold beer in one hand and the menu in the other you can sigh a sigh of deep contentment and perhaps think, just for a moment, that life in the tropics isn’t too bad after all!

This restaurant has stuck with the basics, contemporary Thai food, traditional interpretations but done very, very well. Any regular Thai food eater will recognise all the dishes on the menu and, more importantly, will recognise them when they turn up at the table. Is there anything more annoying than ordering a dish and having a very clear idea in your mind as to what it should be and to have some way out bizarre chef’s interpretation be put in front of you? Or is that just me?!

I really like this restaurant, it has a wonderful romantic atmosphere, the food is good, the service friendly and professional and the journey to and from is all part and parcel of a marvellously decadent and evocative experience.

My dear wife is working there as a sous chef, churning out all those lovely dishes!
